Professional background:
I have worked as a print journalist since the early 1990s, holding positions such as magazine editor, entertainment editor, dining reviewer, reporter, and designer. I am the former editor of Orange Coast Magazine and former Entertainment and Features editor at Times Community News, a division of the Los Angeles Times. I am currently a freelance writer of travel, home décor, and general feature articles.
Teaching:
My areas of specialty are journalism, research methods, and graphic design. Current courses include Newswriting for the Media, Communication Theory and Research, Senior Seminar, News Gathering and Reporting, and Feature Writing.
Research:
Most of my research focuses on media psychology, which examines the ways in which media affect individuals; I am involved in two long-term studies: one examines the effects of televised messages on single women; the other looks at televised mixed martial arts and its viewers.
