Miguel Domínguez received his BA in Spanish at CSULA, his MA at Brown University, and his Ph.D. at UCLA. He arrived at CSUDH in 1987, later becoming the founding chairperson of the Department of Chicano Studies. Presently he is the chairperson the Department of Foreign Languages. Dr. Domínguez has been in many university committees on curriculum and governance. He is a past President of the Mexican American Arts Council of the Bowers Museum and was the director of the Mexican Arts Festival as part of the Olympic Arts Festival in 1984. He has curated exhibitions on art and folk in a number of area galleries and museums.

His publications or research interests include Spanish American dialectology, Romance linguistics, Mexican folklore, Chicano art, Mexican and Chicano history, astronomy, and university student success. Dr. Domínguez instituted the celebration of la posada and el día de los muertos at CSUDH, as well as the annual conference on Latino Student Retention in Higher Education and the Latino Scholar Luncheon at the university.
