Born and raised in Southern California, Professor Galant studied French in high school and learned Spanish at UCLA while working on his B.S. in Biochemistry. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Romance Linguistics and Literature at UCLA, focussing primarily on Spanish linguistics but also studying French and Portuguese. He has also worked on the Zapotecan language family, coauthoring a trilingual Zapotec/Spanish/English dictionary and writing his dissertation about both Spanish and Zapotec – “Comparative Constructions in Spanish and San Lucas Quiaviní Zapotec”. Before coming to CSUDH, he taught at Texas A & M University-Kingsville, worked as a linguistic consultant at InQuizit Technologies, and lectured at UCLA. In his current position, he is the director of the Language Learning Center, teaches French, Spanish, and Spanish linguistics, and continues linguistic research in Zapotec and Spanish.
