Dr. Don Lewis, Chairperson of History and Philosophy: Dr. Lewis joined the Philosophy Department at CSUDH in the fall of 1970. He received his Ph.D. in Philosophy from Southern Illinois University in 1970 with a dissertation on the concept of time in Whitehead and Heidegger. Previously, he earned a B.A. in History and an M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Toledo. Dr. Lewis’ special interest is in contemporary European philosophy but over his 35 year teaching career at CSUDH, he has taught practically every philosophy course in the catalogue. Dr. Lewis is a past coordinator of both the Humanities External Degree Program and the on-campus Humanities Program. He has written papers on Sartre, Althusser, Foucault, Derrida and Philosophy in the Time of War.
